Victor LaValle’s Destroyer (2017) // BOOM! Studios
“When Dr. Jo Baker loses her son as the tragic result of an encounter with the police, she turns to science to find true justice for the death of her only child… by resurrecting him. Embracing her heritage as the last living heir of the Frankenstein family, Baker will soon come face-to-face with her family’s original monster, one whose quest to eliminate the scourge of humanity from the planet has been reawakened by recent events. But as the two must decide if they’re friend or foe, Dr. Baker will be forced to question if this battle for vengeance makes her the family’s true monster.

Claire Napier recently went out challenging marvel writers to explain their feminist agenda and even wrote a piece about it. However, it made me want to share and flesh out my own feminist agenda.
(From Kim and Kim 1)
Trans Highlighting: I was going to say trans inclusion but I find that inclusion is saying “Cool trans people exist” but I want trans people to be stars. The amount of trans representation in comics behind the scenes and in the pages is deplorable at best. I want to create fully formed and happy trans characters. I want trans people to read my work and know that in a world where they are being murdered left and right, that the threat of us killing ourselves, that they too can be important. I also want to make sure it’s more than just trans women being represented, trans men, enbys, people with gender, etc.
Challenge Harassment: I will call out harassment when I see it, I will not support creators who harass people, i will press companies who allow it. Harassment in comics is insanely large from the worst of the worst to more minor things like creators quote tweeting fans. All of these are awful and from the top to the bottom it needs to be addressed. Fans, women, people of all genders, etc need to be protected and in particular when they are fighting the good fight for change (not that you gotta do that to deserve to be treated like a human).
Fighting Heteronormative and Patriarchal Structures: I want to fight the idea of men being in control, the men are the focus of everything and that men are the people who should have the power. I also want to fight the idea that “opposite gender” attraction is the default. I want to create worlds ran by queer people or that focus on queer people. To have have femmine gendered folks with their partners shown as the badasses they are.
Listening to Criticism: I should make a asterisk there because I don’t believe I have to listen to everyone who criticizes me. I don’t need to listen to bigots and I refuse to. That being said I want to listen to feedback I get on my creations and hear how they might have affected people.
Diversity on the page and off it: I’ve already talked about this just a bit but I want to make it clear that I want all kinds of diversity to be enforced. When looking for people to employ under me making sure to support people less likely to get hired due to who they are. I want to display people of all kinds and in particular Latnix people as a focus although I intend on a whole gambit of backgrounds.
